MultilingualWeb

The MultilingualWeb project, funded by the European Commission and coordinated by the W3C, is looking at best practices and standards related to all aspects of creating, localizing and deploying the multilingual Web. The project will raise visibility of what's available and identify gaps via a series of four events, over two years.

The first workshop takes place in Madrid on 26-27 October 2010.

Many interesting speaker proposals have already been submitted, and we have also now confirmed lead speakers for each of the main workshop sessions from the following organizations:

The MultilingualWeb project has made available a public list for discussion of topics related to best practices and standards that support the deployment of a multilingual Web. The list is managed by the W3C, which is coordinating the project.

On June 1st and 2nd partners in the MultilingualWeb project met at the Romanian Academy in Bucharest, Romania to begin planning the series of public meetings that will constitute the main part of the project. We also discussed ways of disseminating information about best practices and standards related to the multilingual Web, and reviewed the prototype of an Internationalization Checker tool that will help you evaluate the international readiness of your web pages.

We are looking forward to our first public event in October, where speakers will share information about existing best practices and standards that can help those working with the multilingual Web, and where we should be heading.

The 1st International XLIFF Symposium will take place in Limerick on 22nd September 2010. This event will be the main pre-conference activity for the 15th Annual Internationalisation and Localisation Conference organised by the LRC.

The purpose of this symposium is to bring together specialists, tools providers, developers, TC members and researchers to discuss and share their experience with XLIFF (XML Localisation Interchange File Format). New trends will be presented, implementation cases will be demonstrated, and the future of XLIFF and its new version 2.0 will be discussed.
